How to find jobs at early-stage startups

Find early-stage teams with open roles and assess the work, runway and equity before joining.

Search where teams publish

Early-stage companies often list openings on their own sites and on startup directories. Use current postings, not only funding announcements, to determine whether a team is hiring.

Evaluate the work behind the title

A founding engineer, product designer or first marketer may own a broad set of responsibilities. Ask what is already built, who will support you and which outcomes matter in the first 90 days.

Understand the risks

Ask how the company funds its operations, what the cash compensation is and how any equity works. An early-stage job can offer ownership but also uncertainty; consider your own financial needs.
