How to get a frontend job at a startup

A portfolio, application and interview checklist for startup frontend roles.

Show a working product

A small deployed project that solves a real problem is easier to evaluate than a list of frameworks. Describe the decision you made, the accessibility and performance trade-offs, and how you tested the experience on a phone.

Match the actual posting

Read the company's required stack and responsibilities before tailoring your application. Link only to relevant work, such as a React interface, a design system contribution or an end-to-end feature you shipped. If you are learning a required tool, say so honestly.

Prepare for collaboration

Startup frontend work often crosses design, product and engineering. Be ready to explain how you handled unclear requirements, responded to feedback and shipped improvements. Ask who reviews your work and what the first month will involve.
